MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation No. 55 – Neutral Beige Review
I just spent a full week testing the Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation (Ivory 20) on what has turned out to be the hottest weather since 2002. The heatwave could not have come at a better time because I really put this product through the paces. At the end of 12+ hours, my skin still looked matte and fresh. No migration, no color change, and it did not settle in the bottom of my pores. I used blotting papers only a handful of times throughout the entire week and pressed powder not at all.
I experimented with Mat Velvet over bare skin, over Tarte’s Clean Slate, and over CARGO’s blu_ray High Definition Mattifier. All were comparable at the end of the day (still matte), but the CARGO primer provided the most matte finish for the longest time.
Here’s what I am trying to conceal: medium-large pores, oily skin, and pinkness on nose, cheeks, and chin (mild rosacea). MUF’s Mat Velvet delivers on all counts. I had been searching for quite some time before I settled happily on this product, trying various mineral powders, MAC’s Studio Tech, Vincent Longo’s Water Canvas, Tarte’s Smooth Operator, and even MUF’s HD line — which I also adore for more sheer coverage.
I imagine this foundation would cover myriad issues (blemishes, splotchiness, birthmarks, scars, bruises), but your skin needs to be smooth and exfoliated, as the makeup would grab onto any flakes and really amplify them.
Also, don’t expect sheer coverage. Even with a light hand, you’ll get medium coverage at a minimum, though you can easily build to full coverage if you work quickly — and quickly you must work because it dries fast to a powdery finish. So don’t dot your entire face; work in small sections at a time for the most natural look.
It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s not. I give myself a flawless face in less than a minute. I *love* this stuff!
